The United Kingdom is procuring the Smash counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) for the British Army, Janes learnt at the Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) Expo hosted by the British Army at Baker Barracks, Emsworth, southern UK, on 11 July. The 500 Smash fire-control systems ordered have been entering service with 16 Air Assault Brigade over the last two months, with one system equipping each platoon.

In collaboration with DRS RADA and HDT Global, the companies will present an end-to-end remotely controlled solution for air defense which includes theMHR radar for tracking the threat and the SMASH Hopper for precisely eliminating it.

Soldiers have been taking aim with a new scope that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to shoot drones out of the sky. Paratroopers from 16 Air Assault Brigade in Colchester, became the first to be issued with SmartShooter SMASH technology this week.

From statements given by the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, it appears that IDF infantry units operating and fighting in the Gaza Strip make extensive use of the Smash sight manufactured by the Israeli company Smart Shooter.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — With small unmanned aircraft proliferating on the battlefield, the Army has acquired a fire control optic that could give dismounted soldiers increased ability to combat drones. JERUSALEM — On April 27, personnel with the Israel Defense Forces downed a drone that crossed into the country from Lebanon. They also found a second drone “belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organization” that had been taken down in early April, according to an IDF statement. It was the latest Israeli targeting of a drone — yet more evidence of an emerging threat that Israel is looking to counter.

Michal Mor, a psychologist by training, says it all began in the Second Lebanon War. “My husband got a call-up order, they handed him an M-16 and he went into Lebanon with a gun and a steel gunsite. The Dutch Army recently completed a two-day live-fire counter-drone trial using Smart Shooter’s SMASH Fire Control System.The test took place in the Austrian High Mountains, as part of the Dutch Defense Department examination of different ways to combat small unmanned systems. Smart Shooter  will be exhibiting at IDEX 2021.
